A reader on Vagina Pagina asked about inner labia pain after sex.
So my long distance boyfriend and I had not had sex in about a month, then we did, and it was rather exhuberant–shall we say. That was on Sunday night. The next morning I was experiencing some vaginal irritation/itching, and I noticed that my right labia minora was swelling slightly. It has not gone away.
I’ve had my share of vaginal pain after sex, and i found that a small drop of herbal oil goes a long way in making the inner labia feel a lot better. One reader at VP said to “putting some ice on it” and I agree. The perceived pain involves a “hot” feeling around the inner vulva, which could mean tissue damage and subsequent repair. Itching soon follows the hot feeling.
When this happened to me the first time, I cleaned the area quite frequently with soap, which was wrong (or so my OB said). I didn’t let the natural flora recover and cleaning incessantly did not contribute to the healing tissue. Rather, making the area ‘too clean’ attracted the bad microbes, which led to more pain and more complications.
I consider myself lucky when only the inner vulva region swells and becomes hot. Can you imagine the feeling of having a sore clitoris along with a sore inner vulva? The feeling sucks!
Rough sex is great while it’s happening, but if you forget to use enough lubrication, pain is almost guaranteed afterward.
