Dear Jessica,
I’ve had trouble keeping quiet in bed, but not in the way you think. My vagina makes all the noise and it’s embarrassing me. I try to ignore it but it happens frequently whenever I have torrid sex with my boyfriend. Can I do something about these farting sounds or should I just apologize for them?
Help!Dee
Dear Dee,
You’re hardly the only one who has those, honey, so don’t fret. When your vagina makes these sounds, it just means you’re having loads of fun in bed, and that’s something you should not feel embarrassed about. During penetration, air gets pushed in by repeated in and out movement, so it’s to be expected that the air must be expelled one way or another.
On how to handle vagina farts or queefs:
When your vagina gives a little sigh, or in your words, fart, you should laugh about it. Yes, I said laugh. Humor during sex can be sexy, and your vaginal farting will give you the excuse to crack a joke (like “I think my vagina is hungry for more!”). Remember, if you don’t feel embarrassed about it, he will not feel awkward about it too.
Hope that helps!
Jessica

There’s a useful article on this subject here:

It illustrates how this problem can be avoided so that a woman isn’t embarrassed and so she doesn’t “pull back” on expressing her sexuality because of it.
