An Orgasm is an Orgasm… Right?

by Jessica on

Let’s consider the dilemma of a woman who has never experienced orgasm. First, she thinks she’s not normal and she stays quiet when her girl friends talk about their sex experiences and how “good” it was for them. Then, she considers the tips she gets from various sources… the media, pornorgraphy, the various books about female orgasm, and the how-to guides that pervade the net.

Just when she thinks she’s very close to finally getting there, just when she’s finally learning about her body enough for her to climax during sex, she encounters another question about the female orgasm …

Should an Orgasm be Vaginal or Clitoral?

Most of the controversy surrounding the female orgasm is the source of stimulation that leads to it. Carla over at her Tantric Temple has this to say about the question “Which is best, clitoral or vaginal orgasm?”

“The clitoral orgasm can not be compared to vaginal orgasms. It’s like comparing apples with oranges. The clitoral orgasm is more intense and more similar to the male orgasm, whereas the vaginal orgasms are more feminine in nature: more wavelike and can last for a long time and can be repeated. A woman can have a series of vaginal orgasms, but usually only one or two clitoral orgasm. Then the clitoris becomes too sensitive to continue.”

But to a woman who only cares about getting off during sex so that she does not feel like a failure, and so that shewill never again think that sex is overrated… it doesn’t matter! An orgasm is an orgasm, whether it’s clitoral in nature or vaginal.

There are women who prefer one to the other, but I’d like to think that an orgasm is an orgasm, and as long as a woman is getting off during sex, she’s good.
